What is the 'Classic", I hear you ask?
The brainchild of our Handicapper Tony Sawyer back in 2011, it's a Knockout Matchplay competition run over the three days of the Golf Trip.

Format:
The Classic will be played over 5 x 9 hole rounds using the stableford matchplay format as usual.
If more than 16 players enter, the 1st round on Friday and will be a qualifying round to determine the final 16 players to start on Saturday.
The draw will determine the starting groups for the Saturdays round.
Qualifying:
Qualifying school will be run on Friday to determine the final 16 players for Saturday’s starting line up.
The qualifying positions will be determined using the previous year match play ladder results (2013).
Depending on the on the number of entries, it is likely that Qualifying matches will need to be played on Friday.
Seeded player 16 will be matched against seeded player 17, 15 against 18, 14 against 19 and so on.

Prize:
The total prize pool will be $ 300.00; this will be made up of the entry fee plus money from the club.
1st Place $150.00 plus a Shirt. The shirt will be presented at the Final round of the year.
2nd place $80.00
3rd place $45.00
4th place $25.00

- Seeded /qualifying event.
- 9 holes matchplay Knockout
- Seeds – using the previous year match play ladder results
- 1st round Qualifying - 9 holes Friday
- 2nd round 1st 9holes Saturday
- 3rd round 2nd 9 holes Saturday
- 4th round 1st 9 holes Sunday
- Final round 2nd 9 holes Sunday
- If a match is all square after 9 holes in rounds 1 to 4, a coin toss 2 out of 3 will be used to decide the winner for the next round.
- The 2 runners up in round 4 will play for 3rd and 4th places in round 5.
- In case of a tie in the finals the players will adjourn to the practice green for a sudden death putt off to decide the winner.

- Players must be Full members of AA Golf Club with handicap. (Minimum 3 cards).
- Players must be willing to play on all 3 days.
- There will be a $5.00 entry fee.
- Friday’s qualifying match must be completed by 6:30 pm of that day.
Other Considerations:
- The seeded draw will determine the playing groups for Saturday round.
- The annual Match Play round should by suspended for the Yarrawonga round.
- Saturday’s Stapleford competition will be played as usual.
- Finalists in the 'Classic' cannot play in the Ambrose on Sunday.
