Australian Airlines Fishing Trip
(Sunday 7th February, 2016)
Well it finally came together, the first Australian Airlines Golf Club Fishing Day!
With much anticipation and excitement 10% of the club members got involved (3 blokes???),
we were at Hastings boat ramp at sparrows fart (actually had a sleep in 7 am start, skipper is getting old).
The sky's were clear, no wind to be seen (so Leenaerts told us!!!)
and everyone was almost on time (Ritchie did 4 laps of the township before arriving!!!)
As we climbed on board Leenaerts brought out his Garmin which would track & expose
our hard working skippers secret fishing holes & sell them to his timber footed
fishing companions (clogs dutchies!!) who spend more time listening
to there own voices on the radio than fishing BUT I DIGRESS...
Leenaerts informed all on board as we left the harbour that the Garmin said we should
have been here yesterday or next Tuesday, how to bring the enthusiasm down!!!
But with all the negativity put aside we steamed out of the harbour anyway
in the hope that the lump in Leenaerts pants was going to be wrong.
The safety speech from the skipper was extremely informative,
the aluminium boat has 100 mm foam in the walls so it wont sink
BUT!!
if it does grab hold of Ritchie & Hodgie because they will float for quite a while
and if sharks come push them into there path that,ll keep them busy for a day or two.
Our first of many stops and Ritchie pulled in our first whiting,
Leenaerts turned into a Richard Attenborough type character by bringing up various different species
of fish coral & lettuce all of which could not go into the fish box.
Whiting were entering the boat at this early part of the day quit regularly,
even while Ritchie was caught looking like he was in a scene from Charlotte's Web!
Shaun Hodges pulled in what can only be described as a horse whiting 43 cm long
(Leenaerts lump in his pants disappeared)
A short time later after catching 11 useless species yapper Leenaerts
was on the board with a nice pinkie which he delicately placed on board
(Ripped it out of the water, swung it around like a cowboy at a rodeo and
proceeded to stab the spikes into a fellow fisherman's foot)
He then caught a 43.5 cm whiting & the lump in his pants appeared again,
only this time it was lower down & on the other leg?
We moved around to various locations, lots of fish caught and lost,
lots of laughs and tears (only from Leenaerts when Shaun caught the bigger fish).
BBQ lunch was served by our waiter on board the boat and we headed back to harbour around 3 pm.

Thank you to those who participated and those who sent apologies,
we may aim for a Gummie shark fish in April
and snapper fish late October in between our golf dates,
( when a fixture is produced) in the mean time swing hard
unless your Leenaerts with a Snapper on the end of the line!!!
P.S the above description is completely accurate to the authors memory,
no further correspondence will be entered into.

As a follow on to this great day, the Billy Bass Trophy
below was presented at the April Golf Round at Yarrambat to Rex Hunt.
This will be up for grabs at the next Fishing Event, stay tuned...
